Let’s face it: no one wants to have to think about retirement, do research for hours a week on stocks, or have to go through the sometimes confusing process of setting up a brokerage account, fund it, and keep up with it. We want to be lazy about it. Well, enter Acorns. This app is perfect for the average person who just wants to set it and forget it. It does an awesome job of investing your money into Index Funds and ETFs to keep fees low and breaks everything down with how it’s handling your money. On top of that, they also have a ton of in app educational material if you do want to stretch your brain in terms of investing. I’ve used Acorns for nearly five years and cannot recommend it enough. I’ve annoyed my friends and family (those that don’t already have a low fee retirement or brokerage account) to get Acorns immediately and begin their stress-free retirement fund journey. Most people only need the Bronze plan, which is three bucks a month. This means that after about three grand in your account, the gains you make basically pay for the subscription, which is much lower than many other options. Keep up the great work, Acorns! You’re changing people’s lives for the better!

A fraudulent company accessed my checking account and took almost $1500 from my account in a matter of a few hours. Upon seeing the first charge come out, I called customer support in a matter of a couple of minutes of it happening to implore them to freeze my debit card to stop the charges. I was told I would be sent an email, which I was, with directions. The directions were to log in to my account. Why can’t the person on the phone walk you through what do. I was obviously already logged into the app on my phone; how else did I know that fraud charges were hitting my account. I filed a dispute on the charges. I was told there would be a 10 day investigation with the possibility of a provisional credit depending on what they find. I will change this one-star review if this company actually does the right thing and provide me with the relief that I deserve and their insurance will cover. I hate to say this but I suspect it was an inside job and the same people who are investigating this matter are the ones who perpetrated it. I just received an email stating that I have not responded to their email inquiries (not true) and that they have determined that the matter is resolved on my end and that they have closed the ticket. I can’t believe that after having had $1500 fraudulently taken from account that not one single person from Acorns can give me a call on the phone. I am being treated like I am the criminal. Beware of using this company!

Everything was good as long as I was putting money in. Then we had to switch banks so I started that process. I submitted the needed documentation for that but it kept coming back denied. I would call and every customer service rep I talked to would say I had the needed documentation and it would take 1-3 business days to process. Then 3 days later it would be denied. I asked to speak to a supervisor after this went on for a month and they were not able to connect me to one. They said one would call me back in 24 hours. No one ever called me back. I called again same run around. Eventually I asked to cancel my account. I finally got in touch with a supervisor who started the process by a three way phone call with both banks and initiated transferring all my money out of my acorns accounts. The next day my acorns account was frozen due to suspicious transactions. I called and asked how the transactions could be suspicious if they were the ones who initiated them. It seemed like a big scam for them not to let go of my money. I had to call them every morning and prove my identity to them multiple times. I’m just know getting all my money after this process going in for two months. Every step of the process felt very scammy. Protect yourself and your investments. Update: I reached out to costumer service as the response to this original review said and they said there was nothing they could do for me.
